Planned home birth

Starting care with, or transferring care to, Rewilding for planned home birth includes all of the care below

Those desiring prenatal or postpartum care only due to planning hospital birth, reach out for arrangements

Prenatal care

  • One-hour visits, fostering connection and individualization of care, every 4 weeks through 28th week, every 2 weeks through 36th week, then weekly until labor

  • Bloodwork, screenings, and diagnostics collected in office (processing billed to client by lab)

  • Referral for anatomy ultrasound

  • Home visit at 36-37 weeks for individualized preparation

  • Availability of midwife 24/7 for urgent concerns

  • Medical consultation and referral available as needed


Birth

From the first labor wave through tucked into bed with fresh babe in arms, your space and well-being is guarded by watchfulness. Whether remotely, waiting for you to need us, or actively surrendering to the work and transformation of active labor, we’re listening to your voice, seeking regular updates, and monitoring for normalcy.

Labor

  • Availability for labor from 37-42 weeks, 24/7, with backup in the uncommon event of concurrent labor

  • Continuous midwife support from well-established, active labor through immediate postpartum stabilization of mother and baby

  • Water birth, whether provided by you, in your own bathtub, or in the Birth Pool in a Box ®  included in care with Rewilding

  • Maintaining support in event of need for transfer to hospital care

  • Clinical supplies kit for birth

Birth

  • Continuous midwife presence and assessment— hands-on when needed

  • Freedom of birthing location and position

  • Immediate assessment of maternal and newborn transition, and ongoing assessment of birthing person— hands-on if needed

  • Any necessary resuscitation performed with parent presence, participation, and support

Taking in

  • Privacy and peaceful surrounding safeguarded for the family to welcome their new cub

  • Family tucked into bed, laundry started, and cleanup

  • Assess for normal transition for at least 2 hours following birth with ongoing communication for the following 24-36 hours until follow-up visit


Postpartum

From the birth, throughout your recovery, and baby’s adjustment earthside, you’re covered:

  • Immediate recovery: home visit the day after birth to check on the birthing person, baby, and family. Assessments, and labs as needed, are performed at all visits.

  • The newest days, home visit (within 30-minute radius of Richmond area) by day 7, complementing daily check-in by phone

  • First few weeks, office visit at 2, 4 and 6 weeks

Questions, concerns, and needs don’t stop magically at 6 weeks.
You’ll be welcomed to keep in touch by email, call, and text as you need to reach out.


Newborn

Your new babe’s care is woven into the birth and postpartum times, occurring alongside mom’s. Everything below is included in the bundled prenatal package unless noted.

  • Complete physical exam – takes place after ‘taking in’ and in presence of parent(s)

  • Lactation support – including evaluation for latch, positioning, tongue / lip ties, individualized care for chest feeding, exclusive pumping, and supplementation as needed

  • Vitamin K – phytonadione, vitamin K1, is typically given shortly after birth in hospital per American Academy of Pediatrics and Centers for Disease Control recommendations (injection or oral drops as requested, additional fee for injection)

  • Erythromycin eye ointment – is typically applied shortly after birth in hospital per American Academy of Pediatrics and Centers for Disease Control recommendations (as requested only)

  • Metabolic screening – the Dried Blood Spot Newborn Screening is performed 24 hours after babe’s birth in accordance with Virginia law, excepting parental decline for religious grounds

  • Pulse oximetry screening– non-invasive screening performed after 24 hours following birth to detect Critical Congenital Heart Disease

  • Jaundice screening – bilirubin screening assessment (lab confirmation as needed, billed by lab)

  • Weight check – monitoring for weight gain at every visit

Billing

  • $5,000

    $500 deposit to intiate care, balance payable in equal monthly payments through 36 weeks when final payment is due

    (Claim submission for client reimbursement effort after birth: 10% processing fee deducted from insurance payment)

    Rewilding is out-of-network with all insurance plans

  • $2,500 for non-billable care
